Sustainable heating

During the summer of 2022, our Lionweld Kennedy subsidiary based in Middlesbrough, was already preparing themselves for the winter ahead and in August 2022 they received their first delivery of Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) from Certas Energy to their Middlesbrough site. This means that from Autumn 2022, their heating will be 100% powered by HVO and they will have completed another of their carbon reduction initiatives to switch to a more sustainable fuel source for their heating needs. HVO produces around 90% less carbon compared to using gas-oil (which is most commonly used for heating). For Lionweld, this could result in a reduction in carbon use of 250 Tonnes of CO2e per year (or 37% reduction of CO2e annually for our business) - a huge step towards their sustainability goals and minimising our environmental impact.
